Considering Manchester United manager David Moyes has insisted several times already that there will likely be no new players arriving at Old Trafford in January, he certainly seems to be bidding for a lot of them.
Juventus and Italy midfielder Claudio Marchisio is the latest to be the subject of a formal offer from United according to Samuel Stevens of The Independent. The 27-year old appeared to be a long-term target under Sir Alex Ferguson and Marchisio has always appeared open to a move to Manchester but said transfer never materialised.
It is believed the club have made a bid starting at around £20m for the Juventus academy product and Moyes may feel he has a couple of aspects in his favour as he looks to seal a deal for a much needed midfielder.
£20m would go a long way to wiping out the loss the Turin club made by crashing out of the Champions League last month and the fact Marchisio isn’t getting regular first team football any more is another bonus. The Italian international has made almost 200 appearances for the illustrious Italian giants but has fallen behind Paul Pogba in the pecking order, the ex-United man anchoring the midfield alongside Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal.
The Daily Express suggest Juventus might be willing to part with the midfielder for the right price and Marchisio might be tempted by the lure of regular football with the World Cup closing in on the horizon.
