Paddy McNair will stay in Finland until Wednesday with a ruptured liver

In Northern Ireland’s game against Finland last Sunday, which saw the Irish qualify for the European Championships, Paddy McNair went down injured in the 13th minute.

The young Red Devil played on until the 51st minute when he was taken off due to still suffering from the injury. At the time, it was thought to just be some upper body bruising but it has now been revealed that he has ruptured his liver.

The Manchester United defenseman has remained in a hospital in Helsinki since coming off in the game. The Manchester United medical team have not travelled out to the Finnish hospital but will assess him when he is fit to return.

Northern Ireland left their team doctor to oversee McNair’s recovery in Finland.

Paddy McNair joins Luke Shaw on Manchester United’s injury list. Both sustained their injuries in foreign countries, and were forced to stay there to manage their injuries.

The Northern Irishman is expected to stay in Helsinki until Wednesday, when he will fly back and be instructed to rest for a couple of weeks.

Louis van Gaal will give an update on Paddy McNair’s condition in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
