Last night, all 3 Manchester United stars who played for their country won their matches.
Spain hosted Luxembourg in their Euro Qualifier and won 4-0. Juan Mata did not start the game but, did come on as a substitute for Manchester City’s David Silva. Silva sustained an injury in the 11th minute which forced him off of the field.
The Manchester United winger did not the score sheet.
Iker Casillas was favoured to David De Gea in net tonight.
Prior to England’s match against Estonia, Wayne Rooney was honoured in front of the Wembley crowd, with the golden boot award, presented by Sir Bobby Charlton. Rooney earned the award for surpassing Charlton in goals for England to become England’s all-time top goal scorer.
In the game, Manchester United centre back Chris Smalling played the full 90, and helped England to keep a clean sheet, and win 2-0.
Phil Jones didn’t make the field but the England manager, Roy Hodgson, seems keen on playing him in their next game.
The only Manchester united player that got onto the score sheet was Ecuadorian Antonio Valencia. Ecuador travelled to Argentina to play a first round World Cup Qualifier.
The game was 0-0 until the 81st minute, when Ecuador’s Frickson Erazo scored. Less than 60 seconds later, a stray pass from Ángel Di María gave Ecuador the break away with Antonio Valencia surging up the pitch to square the ball to ex-Man City striker, Felipe Caicedo, to score from inside the box.
