Wayne Rooney suffered a knee injury while taking part in Christmas Day training at Carrington that is set to keep him out of action for up to three-weeks.
Rooney was absent from the squad on Boxing Day against Newcastle United sparking rumours before the game that he had indeed been dropped due to his poor performance against Swansea City.
But Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed after the game to MUTV that he it is an injury keeping him out:
“Wayne did it towards the end of training yesterday, he was trying a volley when he strained a ligament behind the knee. It’s unfortunate, and he could be out for two to three weeks.”
The injury will keep him out for remaining festive matches against West Brom, Wigan Athletic and West Ham United.
A target of the Liverpool game at Old Trafford will be in sight for Wayne Rooney to recover.

Sir alex ferguson dont be greedy dont just think that all player have return from injuries and the squad is good that you would buy any player in the january transfer opening. The squad need central defender and central midfielder sneijder is a great opportunity that god is offering to us as united biggest fan please atleast buy two player in the open transfer window. All united fan should react the our defence is weak we must reforce our weak defence to win league title and champion league with robin van persie it is possible but problem defence and a experience midfield player like sneijder is needed to the squad.
