On Friday the Daily Mail lead with a story that Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are already planning to quit Manchester United at the end of this season.
In relation to Paul Scholes they reported that he had told a friend that he will hang up his boots for good at the end of this term, a report which we find hard to believe as Scholes himself is one of the quietest players that you will ever meet, very personal, you only have to look back to his comeback for United, he didn’t even tell any squad members that he would be back until the boss read his name out as included in the squad to face Manchester City.
A reaction that Sir Alex Ferguson shared his weekly press conference at Carrington Training Complex on Friday.
Sir Alex said:
“It’s interesting that as Scholesy says very little so I’m surprised if he spoke to some pal before he spoke to me, which he hasn’t done, so you can dismiss that.”
The manager also responded to the suggestion that Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand will be departing also at the end of the 2012/2013 seaons:
“I think Giggs can play for another year or two years and Rio’s form has been fantastic, it’s that type of speculation you expect with people on one-year contracts but I wouldn’t give it too much credence.”
