Manchester United has issued a statement concerning the future of Mason Greenwood, marking the culmination of their internal inquiry into the incidents that led to his arrest in January 2022.
Early last year, the England international was apprehended on suspicion of rape and assault. Subsequently, he faced additional arrests on allegations of sexual assault and threats to kill.
The 21-year-old was also confronted with charges of attempted rape, involvement in controlling and coercive conduct, and assault causing actual bodily harm. However, all these charges have now been dropped, enabling him to recommence his career throughout the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Initially, Manchester United had been anticipated to release a proclamation before their inaugural match of the new Premier League season against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Nonetheless, the decision was ultimately postponed.
Recently, the club’s Chief Operating Officer, Collette Roche, offered an update on the matter, and now the club has officially provided a statement.
“Following the dropping of all charges against Mason Greenwood in February 2023, Manchester United has conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations made against him,” read the statement on Wednesday afternoon.
“This has drawn on extensive evidence and context not in the public domain, and we have heard from numerous people with direct involvement or knowledge of the case.
“Throughout this process, the welfare and perspective of the alleged victim has been central to the club’s inquiries, and we respect her right to lifelong anonymity.
“We also have responsibilities to Mason as an employee, as a young person who has been with the club since the age of seven, and as a new father with a partner.
“The fact-finding phase of our investigation is now complete, and we are in the final stages of making a decision on Mason’s future.
“Contrary to media speculation, that decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intensive internal deliberation. Responsibility ultimately rests with the Chief Executive Officer.
“Once made, the decision will be communicated and explained to the club’s internal and external stakeholders.
“This has been a difficult case for everyone associated with Manchester United, and we understand the strong opinions it has provoked based on the partial evidence in the public domain. We ask for patience as we work through the final stages of this carefully considered process.”

Mason Greenwood must be reinstated to Manchester united first team squad, I feel strongly he would not repeat his past mistakes and must be given a chance to prove he has changed. Football wise he is the future number 9 of Manchester united because he can score goals with both feet’s witch are rare to find.
We need Mason greenwood back
I want bring greenwood back because most of man utd attackers he is better than others especially in finished
I urge Man Utd and the women team to consider giving Greenwood a second chance since everybody makes mistake.
Most of us are judging Mason from that we saw on the social network but we don’t want to understand that Mason is a Manchester boy from the age of 7….there is a file of him from that time until now speaking very well about his behavior ….there are many past coaches consulted who gave their point of view,…there the family of that lady who has approached and heard,….his own family consulted, himself…the court and the police did their part and dismissed the case…the sponsors advised …the bottom line, we feel too holy and don’t understand as a human being, especially in our early ages we can make mistakes…and no one can deserve any chance even when there is cooperation and remorse…
Greenwood deserves a second chance e even the injured girl has forgiven him and taken him back
Rachel Riley:
That’s blackmail which should be rejected in totality!
I condemn all forms of violence against women and equally your rabid form of blackmail against Man United!
Let’s remember that the case was dropped because of some new evidence and that it appears that some of the people for the claimant then decided not to give their version of events, we don’t know why they did what they did,but either way he was not guilty in the eyes of the law of any offence, therefore what is the problem with letting him continue his career with the Reds, stop pussyfooting about and re in-state him now and save the club paying out for a striker when we already one, surely Mason would show some loyalty and give 100 % plus for ManUtd
