In the 3-0 Everton win yesterday, Ander Herrera not only assisted Wayne Rooney’s goal but also scored a well anticipated header.
The Spaniard gave a man of the match performance in attacking midfield, and was substituted in the late stages of the game, to help United hold onto their clean sheet win.
During the international break, Herrera and Marcos Rojo worked on their recovery from injury, and both players started the Premier League win.
Speaking to MUTV, Ander Herrera went as far as claiming that Manchester United could beat any opponent, if they keep playing as they did this weekend.
Herrera had this to say:
“If we keep playing like this we can beat everybody. We showed everyone that Manchester United are here and that we are here to fight for everything.”
“When you lose the way that we did against Arsenal then we couldn’t wait for this game.”
“I think the first 20 minutes today were fantastic and this was the way we had to react. When you have to fight for everything you have to play like we did.”
He also praised fellow starter, and recovery partner, Marcos Rojo for his fantastic cross which allowed him to net United’s second of the game:
“It was a fantastic cross, I said thank you to him! I remember in one of my last games for Athletic Bilbao I scored my last goal for the club with a header against Sevilla.”
“Scoring with a header is one of the things I like to do most, and in England even more.”
The fan-favourite was also singing the praises of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney, who sealed the win with a cool finish created by a through ball from Ander Herrera:
“He did great work for us. He is very important for England and also for us. When you have your captain in good form, scoring goals and if he is happy then it is very important for us.”
“He is our leader, the best English player in history, so we have to enjoy him and it is going to help us a lot.”
Manchester United now travel to Russia to face CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, Herrera says he’s focused on the upcoming match:
“We are very proud, we are very happy for this victory but we don’t have too much time to enjoy this.”
“We have to go to Russia in the week and the group is still very equal.”
The Red Devils face CSKA on Wednesday.
