The final qualifying games for the European Championship 2016 have been taking place this week.
Over this weekend, Marouane Fellaini, Matteo Darmian and Bastian Schweinsteiger have joined the list of Manchester United players that will be playing in the Euros this summer.
Fellaini was an unused substitute in Belgian’s 4-1 win over Andorra which saw them clinch a qualification spot. They are now 2 points ahead of second place Wales. Both teams still have a game to play.
Matteo Darmian actually helped his country gain qualification to the summer competition. Not only did he play the game, against Azerbaijan, he also scored in the 65th minute.
The right back’s strike came after Italy recovered from going 1-0 down, to then come back to 2-1 up. Darmian then smashed a shot in from range to seal the win.
This has guaranteed Italy qualification to Euros.
Last night, Germany went into their game, against Georgia, needing a win to stay top of the group. They managed a 2-1 win, in Germany, without the use of Bastian Schweinsteiger in the match.
Group D have now played all 10 of their games and Germany have qualified as leaders, with Poland just one point behind.
Memphis Depay and Daley Blind, of the Netherlands, need a bit of luck if they are to qualify.
The Dutch cannot gain automatic qualification but, if they can beat Czech Republic, who have qualified automatically, and Turkey do not win against Iceland, who have also qualified automatically, then Netherlands can progress to the play-offs.
Turkey lost their first match against Iceland 3-0, and Netherlands lost their first match against Czech Republic 2-1.
