David De Gea the key to a top 4 United finish

As the vital stages of the 2014/15 season approaches, the time has come for the key players to be separated from the rest, so step-forward David De Gea.

David De Gea’s displays when he first joined Manchester United were inconsistent to say the least, his aerial presence just wasn’t there like the days of Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van Der Sar. But one thing that stood out from day one was David De Gea’s shot-stopping, and amazing reflexes, it wasn’t great but it was something to build on, as we have watched David mould and evolve into one of the best keepers in the world.

David De Gea will be vital to where Manchester United finish come May, he has single handily won us vital games such as Liverpool where his incredible shot-stopping made Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli look woeful in front of goal.

In comparison to the other top four contenders, David De Gea has the league’s third highest save percentage at 73.5% with a healthy 72 saves and therefore is probably the better keeper compared to the other teams challenging United. Where De Gea gains in saves he certainly lacks in clean sheets as Hugo Lloris is currently on 12 clean sheets and has faced 121 shots on goal.

The problem at the moment is the news being reported over in Spain that supposedly David De Gea and boss Louis Van Gaal haven’t spoken for months, whether this is true or not has definitely slowed down the signing of a new contract which is imperative to sign as his current deal expires in 2016.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly after the 24-year-old, with Manchester United needing to secure his signature as we know the power and wealth the Champions league holders embrace.

What the future holds for our top four finish is a mystery and so is the future of young De Gea, but it’s safe to say that if we manage to keep him at the club, we would be the owners of the best keeper  in the world, and one that would has been influential in Manchester United’s push for a top 4 place this season.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
