Mats Hummels has been linked with a number of top clubs over the past few seasons, but none as prominently as Manchester United. The tabloid media have had a field day where the German international is concerned, with constant reports that a deal for the World Cup winner could be on the cards.
During the January transfer window the 26 year-old defender has been linked with a potential £37million pound move to English giants, Manchester United. His current contract is due to expire in 2017, but with his club Dortmund in relegation contention as the Bundesliga hits it’s half way point, transfer rumours have been rife.
The Big German has spoken frequently of his interest to stay with Dortmund even without European competition next season, speaking to German Daily Bild he said;
“I am really relaxed and I’m thinking only of what part I can contribute on the field and in the changing rooms, so that we improve and leave the relegation places as quickly as possible.”
When asked whether he was looking for a headline he said;
“No, I’ll keep doing what I have done for the last seven years.
Borussia Dortmund are up against Bayer Leverkusen away from home on Saturday, as the Bundesliga resumes after it’s winter break. The German giants are second from bottom, and speculation is never very far away, with Real Madrid, United and Chelsea all reportedly interested in the clubs star players. But for the moment Hummels seems to be focused on the task ahead with Dortmund, asked whether the speculation about his future would unsettle him he replied;
“I can’t imagine it will, it isn’t the first time for any of us that this has been written about us,” said Hummels.
“It’s always been the case that things like this are spread about me and I’m still here.”
