Galatasaray are in ongoing negotiations with United for Donny van de Beek

Rumours are abuzz that Galatasaray are in ongoing negotiations with Manchester United concerning a potential transfer for Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek. Throughout the summer, the future of the Netherlands international has been rife with speculation, yet he remains at Old Trafford.

Earlier this week, Lorient reportedly had a loan bid for Van de Beek accepted, but the player himself opted against relocating to the French side. As per sources at The Athletic, Galatasaray have expressed a keen interest in securing the Dutch player’s services but faced rejection from United over their initial £1m loan proposal.

There’s no particular urgency for a deal to be finalised immediately, as the Turkish transfer window is open until September 15, providing a longer window for discussions to bear fruit.

In other United transfer news, Fred has made an exit from Old Trafford to sign for Fenerbahce, while Scott McTominay is confirmed to be staying despite interest from Fulham and West Ham United. The midfield roster will be bolstered by the impending arrival of Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina, alongside Kobbie Mainoo, who is anticipated to return from injury later this month.

Given these developments, Manchester United appear amenable to parting ways with Van de Beek, even after the close of the English transfer deadline. The 26-year-old has struggled to leave an impression since his 2020 transfer from Ajax, contributing just two goals and a pair of assists across 60 appearances for the Red Devils.

Van de Beek’s woes were compounded last season due to a severe knee injury, limiting him to just 10 appearances. Moreover, his involvement this term has been stifled amidst the swirling rumours about his future.

Though the Italian, Dutch, and Spanish transfer windows are also closing soon, it’s worth noting that Van de Beek could still attract offers from the Saudi Pro League later in their transfer window. However, as of now, no concrete interest from the league has been registered.

In addition to the Van de Beek saga, United have sealed deals for Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and Spanish defender Sergio Reguilon on the deadline day. Jonny Evans has also put pen to paper on a one-year extension with the club.
