Steven Gerrard has responded on social media to reports that his Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq are keen on signing Mason Greenwood following announcements regarding his forthcoming exit from Manchester United on Monday.
After a thorough internal examination, Manchester United confirmed that the 21-year-old forward won’t be featuring in their future endeavours, having mutually agreed to part ways.
Earlier this year, Greenwood was absolved of allegations related to attempted assault. Acknowledging the circumstances, he agrees with United’s decision, feeling that a fresh start is pivotal for his career.
According to The Sun, Al-Ettifaq were mulling over a potential offer for the young English talent in the region of £10million a year, but these rumours have now been squashed by the Al-Ettifaq manager Steven Gerrard on social media, with him posting up ‘FAKE NEWS’ on his Instagram account as shown below:
Gerrard, shared the post on his Instagram account at 6.01pm BST on Tuesday evening to his 11.4million followers.
It has been reported that since Manchester United’s announcement that Greenwood would not play for them again, clubs have been contacting in regards to signing the young Englishman. Top Italian clubs, including Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, and major Turkish sides like Galatasaray, have expressed their intentions.
