Midfielder wants out of Manchester United, agent confirms

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has revealed that he wants to leave the club. The former Monaco star, left out of the French national side by Didier Deschamps after a disappointing second half of the 2017/18 campaign has struggled since the January signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, and his situation at Old Trafford seems to have reached an impasse with the United hierarchy. His agent Phillipe Lamboley broke the news to the French press yesterday evening, in a move that won’t come as a tremendous surprise to the club’s fans given how marginalised he became under Jose Mourinho after Sanchez’s arrival.

“After thinking about all the possibilities and scenarios, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United,” Lamboley told French outlet RMC Sport in quotes carried by Sky Sports.“There are many scenarios. For now, it’s premature to talk about it. Anthony will speak later to explain all of this. “Manchester United want to extend Anthony’s contract and do not want him to leave, but we have not been able to find an agreement for several months. I think that when Manchester United, which is the most powerful club in the world it must be remembered, do not find an agreement in eight months of negotiations, it is because they do not really want to make him an important member of the team. That’s the root of this decision.”

However, Lamboley also states that his client will not push hard for an exit from Old Trafford: “However, it is quite obvious and it is very important to remember that he is under contract, that Manchester United will have the last word and that we will respect the decision of the club, and he will fulfil his commitment to them.”

Given that United’s forward line has blown hot-and-cold since Mourinho took over, one hopes that there is a positive end for Martial in this story, as the Frenchman remains the club’s most naturally gifted attacker.
