Manchester United planning deadline day swoop for Paris Saint Germain winger

Manchester United are planning to launch a last ditch bid to sign Paris Saint Germain and Germany winger Julian Draxler before the transfer window shuts, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho can be pleased with the business done over this summer, adding Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic to the ranks, but has made it clear from the very start of the window that he wants to sign a winger before today’s deadline. United were unsuccessful in their bid to prize Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic away from the San Siro and have flirted with the prospect of signing Gareth Bale, although the Portuguese has recently conceded that no deal is possible. Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez and AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar have also emerged as potential options.

And Draxler has likewise attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs. The 23-year-old joined PSG last summer after producing a series of powerful, clinical performances with Wolfsburg, but struggled to secure a regular place in Unai Emery’s starting XI, managing just 17 Ligue 1 appearances last season. His predicament at the Parc des Princes has grown in ambiguity over the summer following Neymar’s arrival from Barcelona earlier this month and may decide to complete a last minute swap with places in the Germany squad for the World Cup up for grabs.

According to the Daily Star (via M.E.N), Bayern Munich were favourites to sign the winger but have recently insisted that no more business will be conducted before the window shuts, paving the way for United to perhaps make one final effort to sign a winger this summer.
