Mourinho offers update on fitness of Manchester United defender

It’s easily forgotten, given how frustrating Manchester United’s latest draw on Wednesday night was, but Phil Jones offered another negative on an evening fill with them when he was forced to withdraw in the second half with a foot injury.

The former Blackburn Rovers centre back insisted that the injury didn’t appear too serious after the match, but Jose Mourinho, during his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League visit to Leicester City told reporters that Jones was his only absentee:

“Only Phil Jones is not in the condition to play,” said the United manager, as per Manutd.com.

This make Eric Bailly’s early return from the African Cup of Nations even more timely, after the Ivory Coast were kicked out of the competition last week in the group stages. Chris Smalling is fit and available, but Mourinho may opt to use Bailly on Sunday given how shaky the England centre back has looked of late.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
