Manchester United Boss Would Not Persevere as Arsène Wenger Has

In a season, and 12 games, as Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal is yet to win a trophy for Manchester United. But, he currently sits at the top of the Premier League table, is in a decent position in his Champions League group and, is still in the League cup. All of which are miles better than where his side were last season.

The Dutch coach has said that he would not be pleased if he was in Arsène Wenger’s position, having gone without winning the league for 11 years.

Louis van Gaal said:

“That’s difficult to answer, because I have won a lot of titles and that’s also my aim. I wanted to do that in different countries.”

“Not only in the Netherlands, but after that in Spain and after that in Germany and after that England.”

“That’s my ambition. That’s why already I am answering your question. I am not that type. I like to win a lot.”

However, Wenger has won more trophies than van Gaal in his managerial career.

The Arsenal manager has 20 trophies, which includes 3 Premier Leagues, 6 FA cups and 6 community shields. The last time Wenger won the Premier League was back in the 2003/04, which was the incredible Unbeatables season. 26 wins and 12 draws landed Arsenal 90 points and 11 points above second place Chelsea.

Louis van Gaal has 19 trophies to his name. 7 league trophies, spanning across 4 different teams and he won the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1994/95, which was the last time that the Dutch club won the competition.

The Manchester United manager is only one trophy behind Wenger, but has been managing for 7 years less. But there is also the case that LvG has managed much more dominant clubs in far less competitive leagues than Arsène.

The two managers go head to head tomorrow in the Premier League, kicking off at 16:00 at The Emirates Stadium or on Sky Sports 1 HD.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!

It’s easy to say Wenger hasn’t won the league in 11 years . But 8 of those years he has to develop the youth he bought whilst he still had the invincible les, qualify for the champions league and then sell these players on. The board had to pay 35 million back every year, think arsenal did it quicker by paying more.

Without arsen arsenal would have been in a worse position probably midtable with a series of different managers.

Success can be measured in different ways. In football the most obvious is trophies , but in Arsenal’s case it has been remaining competitive and relevant. Look at Liverpool and Spurs.

As an arsenal fan, I pointed out to a few utd friends that van gaal will be successful, even when some thought ancelotti would be coming in mid season last year?? He may not win the league but he may leave a blue print and a bunch of young players for giggs once van Gaal retires. That could be his last piece of success to leave something ready to achieve.
