Daley Blind - One shot this season, One goal

Daley Blind scored the first goal in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Liverpool yesterday, and what a goal it was.

It was a thunderous strike from just outside of the box. The ball was rolled to the back of the box by Mata’s free kick then Blind surged onto the loose ball and smashed it into the back of the net.

The goal was not only the opener against United’s arch rivals, but was also the Dutchman’s first goal at Old Trafford.

Speaking to MUTV, Blind discussed his fantastic strike:

“It was really special for me to score my first goal at Old Trafford against Liverpool,”

“I was very happy with the goal and for the three points.”

“We practised this goal, and this move, a lot. Sometimes it went in and sometimes not – normally I have to take a first touch but I struck it at once which was good. I think it was a good finish. It was an incredible feeling when I saw it go in. A lot of emotions came loose and I was very happy.”

He also made a crucial stop on United’s goal line to nullify a Liverpool effort. He then followed up the block by ensuring that the next attempt didn’t make the net. The Dutch all-rounder said:

“It was an important moment,”

“Just before the corner David told me something and that I needed to be there, and I was there so it was good. We laughed about it afterwards.”

He also spoke of his delight for United’s new wunderkind, Anthony Martial, and his fantastic late goal to seal the win:

“I’m really happy for him. He’s a big talent and we all need to be happy that he’s in our team and that he created a goal like this.”

Manchester United play their first UEFA Champions League group game away, against PSV Eindhoven, on Tuesday, and Blind has stated his excitement for playing in his home country as a Red Devil.

“Of course, but firstly I am going to enjoy the moment of this game then we work for the next game.”

“But it’s nice to go back to Holland and face PSV and we have to be on our best in the Champions League and try and get three points over there.”

Daley Blind had another great game against Liverpool and has further solidified his place in United’s starting eleven.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
