Wilson’s England U21’s Debut

James Wilson started his England U21’s career on the bench against USA U23’s. England were at a 0-0 stalemate with the yanks until the coach, Gareth Southgate, brought the Manchester United lad off of the bench.

On the 72nd minute, Wilson scored his first England U21’s goal and the only goal of the game, which handed England the victory.

Southgate has since praised United’s methods of youth development and says that Wilson couldn’t be at a better club, despite there being many loan options available.

“Wilson is a work in progress and still has some filling out to do, but he has shown he can score goals. He is at a club with a history of developing young players and I am sure they will make the right decision with him.”

“Manchester United is one of the best football clubs in the world for nurturing players and what happens is for him and his club to decide.”

The Football League loan window opens soon, so Wilson could yet be on the move to get some regular first team football.
