Manchester United defender medical & transfer to West Brom

The out of favour Northern Irishman, Jonny Evans, has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford since the team returned from their pre-season tour of the United States.

Manchester United’s starting centre back pairing of Chris Smalling and Daley Blind have been excellent helping to keep 3 clean sheets in 3 Premier League games. Eager to replace either of the defenders are Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones. The former trying to gain match fitness and the later recovering from a blood clot injury. There are also youngsters Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett who are able to play in central defence.

Jonny Evans now doesn’t seem to have a place in United’s team and West Bromwich Albion manager, Tony Pulis, looks to capitalise on this. When asked about the Evans to West Brom transfer situation he replied:

“I want Jonny. I think he’d be a great signing for the football club. Now it’s down to the money man and down to his side.”

“Three parties have got to agree, that’s the two football clubs and the player himself, so it takes three to get together and get the deal done.”

“I’d love to sign Jonny Evans.”

The Baggies only have 1 point so far and have conceded 6 goals. However, 2 of their 3 opening games have been against the top two title contenders, Chelsea and Manchester City. They managed to keep a clean sheet against Watford, in a 0-0 draw.

West Brom’s opening game, at the Hawthorns, against Man City, saw them concede 3 goals with Lescott and Dawson at centre back. Since then, Olsson and McAuley have manned central defence. This weekend West Brom travel to Tony Pulis’ old club Stoke.

Jonny Evans has played 198 games for Manchester United, scoring 7 goals. He also helped to keep 9 clean sheets last season. Reports claim that the 27 year old defender is due to have a medical at West Brom soon and that the transfer is immanent.
