Louis van Gaal confirms new in form vice-captain at United

Michael Carrick is quickly becoming one of Louis Van Gaal’s go to players amongst the players he inherited from David Moyes. This is really no surprise since Michael Carrick is one of the most technically gifted passers of the ball in the current squad. Louis Van Gaal sees him as a player who is capable of transferring his philosophy on to the pitch.

Since Carrick’s return from injury Van Gaal has immensely relied on the English midfielder trusting him to lead a back three at times. In recent press conference Louis Van Gaal has been full of praise about Carrick’s ability and his versatility and in today’s Pre-match conference Van Gaal has confirmed that Michael Carrick has been appointed as the new Manchester United Vice Captain. Carrick was seen by many as the perfect choice as Vice-Captain ahead of the season and many were surprised that Darren Fletcher a player who is no longer as influential on the playing field was chosen ahead of him. Carrick is definitely a much logical option as vice captain behind Wayne Rooney as he is still an integral part of the playing squad. Just like United’s fans in the past it looks like Van Gaal has needed some time to show Carrick the appreciation he deserves.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Darren Fletcher with his role in the first team limited to just 49 minutes so far this season. We would all love to see Fletcher be the player he once was but since coming back after wining his battle with ulcerative colitis he has been struggling to perform at an acceptable level. One thing is for sure Fletcher would have been the first person to congratulate Michael Carrick and he would remain a consummate professional about the switch.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
