United's Wilfried Zaha set to return to former club Crystal Palace

Manchester United’s out of favour winger Wilfried Zaha is set for a departure from Old Trafford this summer after failing to impress new manager Louis van Gaal on the pre-season tour and in training, with his former club Crystal Palace his preferred destination, according the the Mirror.

The report states that the fine paper-work and details are currently being worked out between the two clubs, and that Wilfried Zaha himself has made it clear to United that he wants a return to Crystal Palace for the new season.

Despite not being wanted by Manchester United, a range of clubs are said to be interested in the winger, including QPR, West Ham United and Newcastle United, but today it is clear that the player himself would welcome a return to Selhurst Park where his career blossomed.

It is not yet known whether this would mean another loan spell for the season for Zaha, or whether Manchester United will cut their loses on the £15million investment made back in 2013 and let him leave on a permanent transfer.

Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United were all in the chase for the 21-year-old England international but he has opted to return to the club where he made his name by firing them to the Premier League in 2013.

Wilfried Zaha was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last ever signing as Manchester United manager, and was thought to be the next best thing in the Premier League, since an impressive pre-season tour under David Moyes he has yet to impress both the fans and staff at the club.

Maybe another loan move for the 21-year-old is what he needs to kick start himself once again. Zaha is still young and no doubt has a lot of talent, just needs to apply himself more in training and on the pitch to prove his worth. Louis van Gaal said in the summer that he could also be considered as a striker.

Manchester United face Valencia this evening the their final pre-season friendly before the Premier League starts on Saturday.

Zaha needs to improve his work ethic, but he is way too talented to be sold this summer. Loan would benefit both sides and after that we will see – is he up to United standarts or not.

.Palace wouldn’t be prepared to shell out much of a return transfer fee for Zaha. After all, what they got for him has been spent.

United shouldn’t give him away. Send him out on loan and if he comes good then he is worth more to United as a returned player or as a player for transfer, especially as P.L. clubs are interested.
