According to Jamie Jackson of The Guardian, Louis van Gaal is edging closer in bringing Arturo Vidal to Manchester United this summer transfer window. His current club Juventus, are sticking to their guns in wanting £40million for the Chilean but it is understood this price tag is not an issue for Manchester United.
Vidal is one of the world’s best midfielders and is exactly what Manchester United have been crying out for. He helped Chile reach the last 16 of the World Cup where he once again was very impressive. It is clear Van Gaal wants United’s weak midfield sorted with the signing of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao already wrapped up. While Vidal is a target so is Dutch international Kevin Strootman, a target for United last season who has since moved to Roma. It is understood a move for him would be in January due to a serious injury that will keep him out until Autumn.
A midfielder is not the only area that needs strengthening following the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic centre back is also in need of new faces. United have been linked with quite a lot of defenders but Mats Hummels of Borrusia Dortmund and Thomas Vermaelen captain of Arsenal are the main candidates. It is understood that the German international Hummels is Van Gaal’s preferred choice.
