Norwich City vs Manchester United - United's Starting XI?

Manchester United are currently on the back of five straight victories and David Moyes will look to take all three-points when they take on Norwich City in the afternoon kick-off at Carrow Road.

Goalkeeper

david-de-gea-punch Well, no real reason to write about the starting position for Manchester United’s goalkeeper, without injury there is no reason that David De Gea would be dropped this season, with Anders Lindegaard or Sam Johnstone taking their place on the bench.

Defence

Rafael Da Silva limped off on Boxing Day and is very unlikely to travel down with the squad to face Norwich City, meaning that right back will more than likely be filled by Chris Smalling with Jonny Evans, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra taking up the other three positions at the back. Vidic traveled with the squad to Hull City but did not feature, even on the bench but is likely to make his return against Norwich.

Midfield

Moving into midfield for the Norwich City match, starting out on the right wing with Antonio Valencia suspended, Luis Nani could well be in line for a start or the popular Adnan Januzaj.

Michael Carrick made his return as a second half substitute against Hull City and would be a safe bet to start in the middle of the park with either Cleverley or Giggs due to the squad rotations with plenty of games over the Christmas period.

The position of left-wing would to either Ashley Young or Shinji Kagawa, Young played well on boxing day with various runs and great crossing ability to get between the defence and keeper to create goal scoring opportunities. Shinji Kagawa has been suffering from an illness ever since Everton at home, but is likely to return for a squad place down in Norwich.

Attack

wayne-rooney-vs-arsenalMoving to the top of the park and beyond David De Gea, David Moyes’ second name on the team sheet would be Wayne Rooney, after stating that he wanted to leave (again) in the summer, the England striker has been putting in some fantastic performances for Manchester United, he himself would want to play every minute of football he could so no doubt he wont be rested on Saturday.

With Wayne Rooney likely to drop deep as he has done in the past few matches, leaves the opportunity for Danny Welbeck or Javier Hernandez to start up top. I would think that Moyes would start with Hernandez against Norwich, with Tottenham Hotspur at home in the back of his mind on New Years Day.

Robin van Persie is also said to not be far away, so who knows, the Netherlands striker could be a surprise inclusion in the squad as they travel down to Norwich. My squad would be:

De Gea

Smalling  Vidic Evans  Evra

Januzaj  Carrick  Cleverley  Young

Rooney

Hernandez

Agree with the squad. Give young his chance as he is making some good progression. He also offers more defensively that kagawa n nani. Nani needs to step up his game and kagawa is not a winger!

I wanna see Kagawa… But Kagawa is not a winger or a striker!!! People need to stop being silly about this whole number 10 business!!! Kagawa would be best suited as our Scholes replacement, a central.midfielder with attacking influence!!! Its the only way well get the best from him!

really wanna see zaha play!!! And Kagawa alongside cleverley. With janujaz as the other winger!

Its obvious u lack ball sense. Hw wld such a team set up wit cleverly n kagawa in midfield cope against a physical team lyk mancity n chelsea. Kagawa is nt a central midfielder n has never been.

The naivety of ur comment basically means Kagawa shud never have been signed, and neither should janujaz be played, and exactly how does playing Kagawa on the wing solve the solution to his lack of great physicality?? Utd fans need to realise what we lack centrally is someone with a genius passing mind… Which is why i brand Kagawa as our Scholes replacement, Scholes was never a hugely physical player, he just fouled a lot.

i mean u really consider cleverley or carrick to be greatly physical??? Play Kagawa as a central midfielder we get that missing piece that can break a defence from midfield, carrick can relieve pressure, but barely ever gets an assist, Kagawa can give us those assists. Fletcher is months away from first team play, and Utd need to realise we need to think outside of the box, cus current play has only got us 7th!!!

plus look at the damage Liverpool managed to do at the etihad, an unlucky loss, theyre not the most physical. By ur brilliance of a brain barca shud probably bot play messi against city or Chelsea. And janujaz shud b sold immediately!

Would like to see Zaha in the squad and get some game time, even just coming off the bench.

If Kagawa is fit and doesn’t start then I question whether he will ever be a main player in Moyes plans.

Put Fabio in at rightback to replace his injured brother.

Would like to see Fabio/Buttner given a chance at Left Back, as Evra started the last match. Also, Kagawa deserves a chance. He has never had a decent run in the team, and if you followed him at Borussia Dortmund, you would know that he is a much better player than any winger in the team right now. The problem with him is that he is NOT a winger. If I were the gaffer (and thank goodness I am not), I would play him in the hole behind Rooney up top, as the lone striker. I would start with Januzaj and Nani on the wings. I would not start Rooney and bring him on in the second half in place of Chicha.

De Gea
Smalling Vidic Evans Fabio
Cleverly Carrick
Januzaj Kagawa Nani
Chicha

Subs (given no injuries):
Rooney for Chicha
Anderson for Cleverly
Young for Januzaj
