David De Gea – Had very little to do in the first half but when needed in the second was equal to everything Liverpool threw at him. That being said it wasn’t much. A positive performance and a clean sheet. – (7)
Alex Buttner – A few misplaced passes, ran himself into cul-de-sacs a few times and ended up losing the ball rather a lot in the first half. Improved defensively in the second half and continued to get forward. Linked well with Nani but defensively looks a little suspect. – (6)
Chris Smalling – The first half wasn’t how Chris Smalling wanted to perform after a poor showing at the weekend. He looked shaky, missed a few headers and looked to struggle with Sturridge and Suarez. The second half looked to be improving apart from some odd mistakes that gave Suarez and Sturridge space. His biggest mistake was a first time pass to Suarez which resulted in the Uruguayan getting a corner off a shot. – (6)
Jonny Evans – In the first half Jonny looked rusty, he missed a few headers and even seemed to let one go which landed to Suarez, luckily his control was bad which allowed De Gea to pounce on the ball. The second half was a different story, he really improved and took control of the defence. He made some good headed clearances and was instrumental in the clean sheet. – (7)
Rafael – The Brazilians return to the starting eleven has been a long time coming and he looked itching to get at Liverpool. In the first half he looked very positive, was left without cover from Nani on occasions which he seemed to deal with for the most part. Second half he continued to work hard, looked very strong in defence and got forward with increasing regularity. Moyes will be overjoyed at his return to the team. – (8 – MOTM)
Phil Jones – For most of the first half Jones seemed to be MIA, he had some sloppy passes and seemed to fall asleep at times. The second half was again a different story, his work rate seemed to increase a lot, he worked hard defensively and made more than one important interception in the final fifteen minutes. – (7)
Ryan Giggs – Involved in most of the play in the first half, slightly sloppy which you take as a given as Giggs gets older. Worked very hard and looked capable of doing something to unlock the Liverpool defence, drifted out of the game as it progressed. – (6)
Shinji Kagawa – Looked good in the first half, Shinji had one or two defensive lapses but going forward looked like he could create something. Linked well with Chicharito in the box which ended with the ball being cleared but was very encouraging. The second half continued like the first, linked well with the players around him but seemed to tire before getting substituted. – (7)
Nani – Very positive throughout the game, one of the best United players on the pitch from an attacking point of view. Nani was involved in most of the positive looking attacks from United, he did seem a little wasteful at times with some shots that flew wayward. Also went missing defensively a lot but it’s part and parcel of any Nani performance. – (7)
Wayne Rooney – Worked hard to get involved in every attacked but didn’t seem to be able to play to his recent standard. In the second half there were two long range efforts that required Mignolet to concede corners. – (6)
Chicharito – Very positive performance in the first half, looked most likely to score. He’s had more than one good interplay with the midfielders to try and create something. Began the second half perfectly by managing to lose his man and find space in the box before converting from the corner for the games only goal. – (8)
Substitutes
Michael Carrick (On for Hernandez – 73 minute) – Without doing anything spectacular he worked hard to defend the lead and provide another option in the midfield. – (6)
Adnan Januzaj (On for Kagawa – 73 minute) – Tried hard to be involved, worked hard on the right and didn’t seem afraid to put a challenge in. – (6)
Danny Welbeck (On for Nani – 91 minute) – Wasn’t on long enough to make any difference. (–)

stupid ratings. ..seems like u didn’t watch the match! #Rooney (MOTM)
Just see moyes you rotate the defence by some changing and united win the match.as united fan i always said kept rotating the team you will see united winning.
Rooney a 6? Common! He was all over the pitch, very enterprising and was involved in our best moves.Topped it With a well deserved assist. Top performance.he gets an 8.
Thought Liverpool had an off night.United were a bit slow in the middle of the park, reasonabe defence.Best players were Nani,Rooney and Rafael.Kagawa is too weak. There is hope yet as its early days.
I have to agree; seems like you didn’t see the same match. I was happy to see Kagawa in the start-11, but he didn’t play well at all (5)- and Rooney was playing fantastic, 8 at least.
Moyes is slower than Fergie to change the game.Dont think United will get the points needed this season. He should really go for building a new team and forget trophies, like Arsenal,Tottenham,Chelsea,Man C.Why is Giggs still playing,ok he had a decent game but Liverpool had an off night.Uniteds defence was reasonable but not much upfront to get excited about ay.
Looks like you didnt watch the game.. Rating of rooney is the stupidest.. And i think Nani didnt do that well..smalling was superb..
I thought Rooney was fantastic, 8/10. Kagawa was a huge let down (yet again). I wonder when people will finally stop calling for him to be played because he’s simply not as good as they think?
