Rene Meulensteen has denied being sacked by United

Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen has denied that he has been sacked or has indeed stepped down from his role.

Meulensteen insists that he will be back at Carrington Training Complex, which will be named AoN Training Complex from 1st July 2013.

Sir Alex Ferguson retired as manager at the end of the season and it was announced shortly afterwards that assistant boss Mike Phelan and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele had also left their roles.

New Manchester United manager David Moyes is keen to get his own backroom team in place, he is currently on holiday in Barbados with his family and is not due to be back at Carrington until 1st July.

Rene Meulensteen has in the past few weeks been linked with a move to Wigan Athletic as manager to replace Roberto Martinez.

Speaking with Dutch football magazine ELF Voetbal he said:

“So far I will report on July 1. I am still under contract at the club.

“I didn’t step down, and also I was not sacked by Manchester United. I am still employed.”

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
