Tom Cleverley out of the England squad

Tom Cleverley has withdrawn from the England squad with a calf-injury as the national side go into their friendlies next week.

Cleverley was called up by Roy Hodgson to face the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on Wednesday and then Brazil in Rio next Sunday. However the Manchester United midfielder has been forced to pull out with a calf injury that he picked up against West Bromich Albion.

The withdrawal of Cleverley now means that Roy Hodgson will now be without three key midfielders, Steven Gerrard and Jack Wilshere will also be missing the weeks friendlies.

Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell will come into the squad to replace Cleverley, with United’s Michael Carrick and Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard the other options in the middle.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
