Video: On this day in 1996, Eric Cantona

On the 21st December 1996 Eric Cantona scored one of his most famous goals at Old Trafford with a delicate chip against Sunderland.

The Frenchman’s chip against Sunderland was then only matched by a fantastic celebration, a celebration that has gone down in Barclays Premier League history.

Cantona’s sublime chip, won Goal of the 20 Seasons which was awarded earlier this year.

When Eric heard that he had won the award, he said:

“That’s the only thing I won? For a king like me it’s not a lot.”

The goal saw him run from the halfway line, play a delicate one-two with Brian McClair and then chip the ball over the advancing Sunderland goalkeeper Lionel Perez.
