Manchester United set for tough tests on two fronts over the next few weeks

Manchester United face a difficult few weeks as they continue to chase success in the Premier League and Champions League.

United return to action on Saturday, October 20, with a tricky looking trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho’s side will head into the game seven points adrift of the Blues and a defeat would be a hammer blow to their hopes of getting involved in this season’s title race.

United’s recent record against Chelsea is poor, with the North West club winning just two of their last 16 meetings in all competitions.

The Red Devils lost 1-0 on their last visit to Chelsea and fans watching the game online via Man Utd live streaming will be eager to see an improvement in their performance this time around.

United’s attention switches to the Champions League the following Tuesday as Group H leaders Juventus visit Old Trafford.

The Serie A side have a 100% record after two games, but the English club have won their last three meetings with Juve and will be eager to extend that run.

The two sides last met in the Champions League back in 2003, with United winning 2-1 at home and 3-0 in Italy.

A Premier League meeting with Everton is next on the agenda, with the Toffees making the short trip down the M62 to Manchester on Sunday, October 28.

United have lost just one of their last nine meetings with Everton in all competitions and they will fancy their chances of victory in this one.

A trip to Bournemouth is next on the agenda, with the two sides scheduled to meet at the Vitality Stadium on the first Saturday in November. United did the double over Bournemouth last season and they should add another victory here.

The return Champions League game with Juventus will take place the following Wednesday, although United fans could be forgiven for having one eye on the big derby clash with Manchester City four days later.

Despite City’s emergence as one of the top clubs in England, United’s recent record against their local rivals is good.

They have lost just two of their last eight meetings with City in all competitions and they emerged victorious when the two sides last met back in April.

Goals by Paul Pogba (2) and Chris Smalling sealed a remarkable comeback from a two-goal deficit for United and a similar result on November 11 would be a major boost for the Old Trafford faithful.
