Manchester United defender seals return to boyhood club

Manchester United have confirmed the transfer of Daley Blind back to Ajax, with the Dutch international rejoining the club that he left in 2014 for Old Trafford. In a statement on Manutd.com, the club had this to say on the deal: “Daley Blind has completed a transfer from Manchester United back to former club AFC Ajax.

“The versatile and technically-gifted Netherlands international has signed a four-year contract with his boyhood club in Amsterdam, from whom he initially joined the Reds in August 2014.

“It goes without question that everyone at the club wishes Daley well for the future.”

Writing on Twitter, Blind offered the following statement as his departure from Manchester United was confirmed: “First of all I want to say how proud I am to be a part of the Manchester United family. To play for the biggest club in the world with such a history meant a lot to me. I had 4 great years with 4 (trophies)! I want to thank everyone, the Managers, coaches, the medical department, everyone who helped me to settle in so quick at the beginning, of course my teammates and last but definitely not least the fans! I want to thank you for all the love and support I received and still get. I will never forget some of the special games and moments, I will miss you ‘The Theatre of Dreams’! But now it’s time to go home.”

Blind’s transfer was widely expected this summer, given that the Dutch international rarely featured for Jose Mourinho’s side in his second year in charge of the club. The versatile player, who has slotted in at left back, centre back and defensive midfield during his time at the club frequently found himself on the bench, so his departure in search of first team football is one that will benefit all parties.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
