Sky Bet have 4 players linked to Manchester United for the final couple days of the transfer window. The favourite may surprise you.
Bottom of the list is Saido Berahino. The West Brom youngster is at 12/1 to join United, but the bookies see this as unlikely with Spurs being favoured at 11/10. The 22 year old, Burundi born striker scored 20 goals for the Baggies last season.
Next up is the big man, Zlatan Ibrahimović rolling in at 8/1. At these long odds, United are still favourites will A.C. Milan being next in line at 12/1. The Swede scored 30 goals for Paris Saint-Germain last season, but has been suffering with knee problems at the start of this campaign. Some say that he can kill 2 stones, with 1 bird.
Another Premier League player comes in as second favourite, at 9/2. That’s Southampton’s Sadio Mané, the owner of the record for quickest Premier League hat-trick. The 23 year old has a goal and four assists this season, three of which came against Norwich City on Sunday. The bookies reckon he’ll stay at the Saints though with the odds at 1/8.
Top of the list might surprise you. It’s not Lacazette, Benzema, Icardi, Neymar, Bale, Ronaldo, Robben or Müller. Relegated from the Premier League only last season, but favourite to move to Old Trafford, at 1/2, is Charlie Austin!
So far this season he is 4 for 4 in goals to games and has an assists. Last season he set up 18 Premier League goals and set up a further 7. Despite currently being a championship player, he might be the perfect fit for United.
He’s a proven Premier League striker, who is physically able to cope with the demands of the league. If played in Rooney’s current position, with Wayne moved in behind him, Austin could have any of: Rooney; Mata; Young; Depay; Valencia; Herrera; Schweinsteiger and; Carrick looking to set him up. What true striker couldn’t score with that kind of entourage?
Manchester United have been quite cross-orientated this season, to very little success, mainly because our front line is quite short, and lack aerial dominance. Charlie Austin has a great head, is big, strong and can jump to the high balls. He’ll also throw himself onto any ball, he’s always desperate for a goal, and that’s exactly what United need.
I would be very happy to see Austin throw on the Red, if he gets regular game time, with Rooney by his side, and isn’t just Wazza’s understudy. Despite Louis stating that he doesn’t need a striker, the odds of 1/2 have given me hope.
