MATCH PREVIEW: Inter Milan vs Manchester United

Manchester United face Inter Milan in their 3rd game of pre-season and under Louis van Gaal’s reign. After the thrashing of LA Galaxy a certainly a tale of two halves against Roma United now gear up to face former captain Nemanja Vidic’s Inter. It’s good to keep in mind these aren’t just pre-season games but a pre-season tournament. The Galaxy game was not part of this Champions Cup but on match day one of the tournament seen United see off Roma and Inter squeeze past Real Madrid on penalties.

Manchester United’s game against Roma was certainly an odd one, with Roma the better team for most of the first half it was a surprise to go in 3-0 at half time. Wayne Rooney scored a fantastic long range shot before turning provider with a superb long range pass which was controlled by Juan Mata and ultimately chipped over the goalkeeper into the back of the net. Rooney also netted a penalty which many fans did not get to see as MUTV had lost signal for the end of the first half. But with United almost changing the whole squad for the second half Roma took charge and came very close to bringing the games to penalties. United’s weaker side seen Francesco Totti tuck away a penalty and an unbelievable goal from Miralem Pjanic from his own half, which flew over Ben Amos. United held on to secure the win but LVG was not too happy after the game.

Only a year ago Nemanja Vidic, our captain, was lifting a record 20th Premier League title and only a few months ago he was leading his United side out under David Moyes. But he has since made his move to Inter Milan where in only his second game he fill face his former team-mates. Vidic’s Inter were victorious against Real Madrid, the Serbian scoring their first penalty in the shootout. Speaking before the game Vidic had this to say: “I grew up there in every aspect. Manchester United have become the most famous club in the world. It may only be a friendly and there won’t be too much pressure, but it will be a strange feeling playing against my past.” We all know how competitive and passionate he his and speaking about the game he said he won’t go easy on us. “Listen, I would play against my brother as strong as I can!”

Louis van Gaal has been speaking ahead of the game where he confirmed Wilfried Zaha will get his first piece of action, confirming he will play up front in the second half. He also confirmed Chris Smalling will play 90 minutes and is most likely to be captain. Van Gaal was not impressed with Luke Shaw’s fitness level and confirmed he has a programme for the youngster who trained by himself yesterday.

It certainly won’t be an easy clash but it’s sure to be a memorable one, seeing Nemanja face us is not something we could have envisioned a year ago but I’m sure he’s on a mission to stop Wayne Rooney & co later on tonight.
