Manchester United vs AS Roma: United's Starting XI?

Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United face tough opponents in the form of Italian side AS Roma in the club’s second pre-season game out in the states. The game held in Denver will see the Red’s look to build on their opening game of the tour after they brushed the LA Galaxy aside with an impressive 7-0 victory.

Of course it is pre-season and the new manager will want to give every player plenty of game time, the Dutchman may opt to a fairly similar line-up to that of the previous game as the players will again digest the news system Van Gaal has brought to the table. Here’s how United may line-up in Denver:

Goalkeeper

David De Gea will most likely get the nod again after only playing the first 45-minutes in the game against the LA Galaxy. The Spaniard should be raring to go after viewing all that football in Brazil from the sidelines.

Defence

With Van Gaal seemingly set to play three centre backs again then it looks as if Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans will get the nod with the trio being the only three recognised first team centre halves in the squad. Louis van Gaal has confirmed that young Tyler Blackett will get a start against AS Roma, which is great for experience, on the other side with Rafael injured we can see Valencia coming in at right wing-back after impressing in the second-half back in California.

Midfield

Darren Fletcher is in prime contention to get another start in a three man midfield. After playing the whole 90-minutes the other day he will look to build on his fitness in what is his first full pre-season since his illness. New signing Ander Herrera will most probably start on the bench, paving the way for Tom Cleverley to get a start and it is a toss-up between Juan Mata and Shinji Kagawa for the attacking-midfield position with the pair likely to get 45-minutes each to impress.

Attack

Both Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck are favoured to start against AS Roma with the pair bagging three goals between them in the opener and also both being substituted at half-time. After joining the tour just before the LA Galaxy game, Javier Hernandez will also be in the background raring to go.

Predicted Starting XI

De Gea,

Smalling, Jones, Evans;

Valencia,                                      Blackett;

Fletcher, Cleverley;

Mata;

Rooney, Welbeck.

——De Gea——
—-Smalling——Jones—–Evans———
-Rafael—–Herrera—-Cleverly–Blackett-
—————–Mata———————
———–Rooney—-Hernandez————

Welbeck must be sold,he does nothing,he wastes a lot of chanced..todays squad.de gea, shaw, jones, evans.herrera, fletcher, valencia , young, kagawa, wayne, chicharito. Smalling needs to be sold also…we need curving balls so lets keep young at trafford.

I THINK THIS SHOULD BE THE STARTING ELEVEN Lindegaard jones Smallin Evans Blackett Valencia Cleverly Herera Kagawa Wilson Chicharito. I Think Chicharito And Wilson Should Be Giuen A Chance.

Man Utd is always lazy in the transfer market. personally am disappointed for a team in dire need of key players and they seem to be beating around the bush. Even Arsenal have seen the need to step up. We need to buy good players or we just settle as an average team.. cleverly, Young, Nani are all good players but not Man Utd standard anymore..Van Gaal please come to our rescue and buy quality players. Ed Woodward seem not to be competent to manage such a club.
