Darren Fletcher makes his return for Manchester United

Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher made a return to football on Monday night as he featured for the clubs under-21s in a fixture against Fulham at the Salford City Stadium, playing just over an hour of football.

Fletcher has been battling a serious bowel condition over the past few years and not feature for the club since boxing day 2012, but in the past three-weeks he has been a regular feature during the first-team training at Carrington, slowly getting himself back to match fitness.

Great news for both player and club on Darren Fletcher’s return, with regular features for the under-21s from now until Christmas, we could see Fletcher back in contention for a first team place in the new year.

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan hinted last week that Fletcher could be close to a comeback, speaking of a phone call between the two, he said:

“I really enjoyed the phone call

“You would have to speak to United and Darren about his progress but, yes, I did really enjoy the phone call.”

Fletcher back in first team contention is like making a new signing, big favourite of mine and a big boost to the team. A player with heart is a player you start, Fletcher wear’s his on his sleeve.
