Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley is looking to impress on the clubs pre-season tour as has hailed the teams spirit as they plan to fly out to Thailand next week.
Tom Cleverley will have a fight on his hand for a first-team place if the recent transfer speculations of Thiago Alcantara and Kevin Strootman coming into the club are true, but Cleverley is ready to fight for his place.
The Manchester United pre-season tour squad fly out from Manchester airport next Wednesday and Cleverley is more than looking forward to it.
In an interview with manutd.com, he was asked whether the trip will be a good bonding exercise,
He said:
“Yeah, it’s brilliant. We have a great team spirit in the squad and I’d be surprised if there is a club with a better team spirit than ours. Everyone gets on and I think the tours can only help that.”
Cleverley is more than aware that all the players will be out to impress new manager David Moyes, who started his Manchester United managerial job on Monday. Cleverley added:
“I’ve managed to score a few goals on tour, it shows the manager what you can do and the fans also get to know your name. Most of all, being away with the squad helps you become comfortable around the first-team lads. For a few weeks, you change from being a reserve-team player to a first-teamer and you feel more comfortable. As a young player it can really help your development.”
United will play six matches Asia, Australia and Sweden before returning to the United Kingdom to face Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield.
“I don’t think any game is seen as not being important at this club, there’s competition for places and, not only that, the rest of the players and the staff set such high standards that you constantly have to try and meet. Every game is taken really seriously and you’re always trying to impress so you give it your all.”
