Robin van Persie has turned down the opportunity to move to the number 9 shirt at Manchester United.
Van Persie has decided to stick with his current squad number of 20, thinking of the fans who have already purchased merchandise with his name and number on.
Robin joined Manchester United last summer from Arsenal and at his very first press conference said he had chose the number 20 shirt at United because he was determined to help the club get their 20th league title, which was completed in style against Aston Villa.
Speaking with United Review, van Persie said:
“I think I’ll keep it [Number 20]
“I have the option to take no.9 but I don’t think I’ll do that. I’ll stick with what is right and what feels good.
“Also, I don’t want to be harsh to the fans who have no.20 on their kit. I don’t want them to have to buy a new shirt. It’s been a good number for me and now I can at least celebrate the 20th trophy for another year. I’ll stick with it.”

While I think that Berbatov did well at Utd, it has been a while since someone really stood out with the no.9 on his back, Saha had all the attributes but he was never off the injury table, it will be interesting to see who wears it next season.
Number doesn’t count/matter, Robin is such an intelligent & humble person who can come out with great moments
