Manchester United’s Phil Jones hope that being able to play in various positions for the club will not damage the development of being a commanding figure at the centre of United’s defence.
Jones preferred position would be centre-back but so far this season he has played in central midfield and right-back. Jones played centre-back in the third and forth rounds of the FA cup in defence alongside Chris Smalling in what many say could be United’s centre-back partnership for many years to come.
Speaking with manutd.com, Jones said:
“I have said all along that [centre-back] is where I feel most comfortable, I understand and read the game better there. But wherever I am asked to play I will play there.”
The last Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur, Jones was positioned in midfield, a position he is no stranger to.
Jones added:
“I kind of shoot myself in the foot a bit. But I am at Manchester United and I love playing for this club and I am happy to play anywhere.”
“I didn’t have a great start to the season but hopefully I can push my way into the side now and get some games under my belt,”
