Manchester United’s Michael Carrick is set to make his 400th league appearance against Norwich City on Saturday at Carrow Road, Carrick himself has come out and spoken how he has learnt so much from vetran team-mate Paul Scholes, going on to label him as ‘a genius’.
Last weekend against Aston Villa both Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick made 239 passes between them, this was only 44 fewer than the entire Aston Villa team during the match.
Paul Scholes, who celebrated his 38th birthday on Friday, made 80 passes against Aston Villa last weekend with a completion percentage of 93%, more than anyone else during the game.
Michael Carrick had this to say about Paul Scholes:
“Paul Scholes is a genius, it is fantastic to play with him.”
“Whether he realises or not, he has helped me enormously just by watching him and taking things in.”
“We all know what he can do. But there are some things you simply cannot teach. You can learn but some of the stuff only he can do.”
Michael Carrick will make his 400th career appearance on Saturday, including all performances for West Ham, Tottenham, Manchester United and the two loan spells that he had against Birmingham and Swindon Town.
Michael himself is not one for stats in football:
“It is the first I have heard of that, I suppose I have been playing for a number of years and the games do add up but it is not something I look for.”
“For me it is more about the trophies, what people win and what they can achieve.
“Maybe at the end of my career I can look back and see what I have done.”
“But at the moment, it is just about winning trophies for me.”
