Alexander Buttner can be a great success for Manchester United, according to former Netherlands international Peter Boeve.
Buttner, who joined Manchester United before the end of the transfer window, was on the bench against Liverpool as Patrice Evra returned to the starting 11.
Boeve believes that Buttner will turn out to be a great signing at Old Trafford.
Speaking with goal.com he said:
“Many people were laughing about his transfer, they couldn’t believe it. Apparently not everyone has the insight to recognise talent.
“It’s lovely that he started like this at his new club. But he’s not there yet. It’s easy to come somewhere, but it’s hard to stay there. He must be mentally strong and keep both feet on the ground.
“He must work very hard and look at the other experienced players. He can learn a lot from them. He’ll also become a better play by training with better players.”
“Buttner can improve a lot. I think he’s a better left-back than Jetro Willems [of PSV]. Alex deserves a selection for the Oranje.
“Alexander is still the rough street football player. Sometimes a bit uncontrollably, but you can unlearn that. But on the other hand, that playful style is also a good thing.
“He must improve his good points. Buttner has insight, a good pass is strong offensively, but defensively less. He can cover the whole left side, but must choose his moments.
“The fact that Buttner played against Wigan proves that Ferguson see him as a serious option. Evra is getting older, Buttner is there for the long term. What term? He can decide himself.”
