Danny Welbeck spoke to MUTV at the end of the week regarding the injury to Wayne Rooney and the competition up front for Manchester United.
Speaking about Rooney’s injury against Fulham last Saturday he said:
“The referee blew the whistle as I was going up to challenge for the ball, I turned round and Wayne was holding his leg. I got a bit closer and it was like a surgeon has been in with a knife and scraped a line in his leg.”
Welbeck’s reaction to Wayne Rooney’s injury
Welbeck has recently signed a new 4-year deal with Manchester United, at 21 Sir Alex Ferguson believes that in the next couple of years that Danny can become one of the worlds best strikers.
With the addition of Robin Van Persie up top you would think that Welbeck would feel a little pushed out for the rest of the season, a thought that has never crossed his mind:
He said:
“It is really healthy competition, We have a wide variety of strikers to choose from and that creates a good selection problem for the manager. It will have a good effect on the team.”
Fitness is key for any player in the Premier League, with Welbeck featuring at some point in Manchester United’s first 2 games he hopes to keep that up:
“It takes a while to get your fitness up, I have had a couple of games. I am looking forward to pushing on now and getting 90 minutes under my belt.”
