Sir Alex Ferguson is set to take charge of his 1000th league game for Manchester United on Sunday as the reds travel to Southampton in their third fixture in the Barclay’s Premier League after last weekends 3-2 win over Fulham.
Since taking the reigns of Manchester United in 1986, Sir Alex Ferguson has been manager of the most successful team in history for 999 league games.
Sir Matt Busby, predecessor to Sir Alex managed the club for 972 league matches during his two periods in charge.
Since 1986 in charge of Manchester United, Ferguson has won an average of 2.03 points per game for almost 26 years, a fantastic ratio of points for a team in the top flight.
Other managers in the English league have been in charge for more than 1000 games, but, these managers have either been in management with different clubs or gone up and down divisions, this is where Sir Alex Ferguson is different in his record breaking, being at the same club and in the top flight of the English league for the past 26 year.
