Manchester United’s latest recruit, Patrick Dorgu, has conducted his first official interview since joining the club from Italian side Lecce. The young Danish defender sat down with club media to discuss his journey to Old Trafford, his ambitions, playing style, and the significance behind his squad number.

At just 20 years of age, Dorgu is eager to make an impact in England, believing he possesses both the skillset and mental resilience required to thrive at the highest level. As he embarks on this exciting new chapter of his career, the dynamic wing-back expressed his enthusiasm for joining the United family and his determination to embrace the challenges ahead.

A Dream Realised

Dorgu’s excitement was palpable as he spoke about his move to one of the biggest clubs in world football.

“It feels amazing to be part of the family,” he told club media’s Zarah Connolly. “I’m very excited to get going.”

The young defender has long admired the club and is relishing the chance to experience the famous Old Trafford atmosphere first-hand.

“I have heard about the incredible support and I’m happy to be one of the players of United now. It’s a huge club. It’s the biggest club in England and I’m really looking forward to working with the new manager [Ruben Amorim]. I feel the system suits me really well, so I’m excited to be here.”

A Player with Energy and Drive

Dorgu’s versatility and attacking instincts have been key attributes throughout his development, and he believes his style of play will complement Amorim’s philosophy. He is confident that he can bring a fresh dynamic to United’s defensive options.

“I think I’m going to bring a lot of intensity and physique on the pitch,” he stated. “And a lot of energy and running.”

With his natural athleticism, technical ability, and attacking mindset, the Denmark international is well-equipped to compete in the Premier League, a competition known for its pace and physicality. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively will undoubtedly add depth to United’s squad.

The Importance of a Strong Mentality

While Dorgu acknowledges the physical and tactical aspects of the game, he is equally aware of the mental strength required to succeed at an elite club like United. Having lived alone in Italy during his time at Lecce, he has already developed a high level of independence and focus.

“For me, it’s the most important thing because there’s a lot of talk about and around football,” he explained. “You really need to be strong outside of football as well.”

He further reflected on his experience in Serie A and how it helped him mature as both a footballer and a person.

“When I’ve been in Italy, I’ve lived alone. Of course, my family is visiting me a lot, but you need to be really good mentally to stay focused and be concentrated on football.”

This level-headed approach will serve him well as he adapts to the demands of playing for Manchester United, a club where scrutiny and expectations are always high.

The Significance of the No.13 Shirt

Squad numbers often hold personal significance for players, and for Dorgu, the choice to wear No.13 at United was a continuation of a tradition he started during his time at Lecce.

“I had it since I came to Lecce. I think it’s good to keep going with what’s going good, so I think, yeah, No.13 is working really good for me at the moment.”

While some may see the number 13 as unlucky, for Dorgu, it has been a symbol of consistency and success. Now, he aims to carry that positive energy into his Manchester United career.

Short-Term and Long-Term Goals

Dorgu is fully aware of the expectations at United and has already set clear goals for himself. With important fixtures on the horizon, including an FA Cup fourth-round clash against Leicester City and a Premier League test against Tottenham Hotspur, the Dane is eager to hit the ground running.

“We’re still in a lot of cup competitions, so of course, to win the cup games,” he said when asked about his immediate ambitions. “And, of course, to win as many Premier League games as possible.”

On a personal level, he hopes to establish himself as a key member of the squad.

“My ambition is just to play a lot of games, to be a great part of the United family, and just to keep pushing and improve my potential.”

A Bright Future Ahead

Patrick Dorgu arrives at Manchester United as a promising young talent with the drive and determination to succeed. His blend of technical skill, physicality, and mental resilience makes him a player to watch in the coming seasons. Under the guidance of Ruben Amorim, he has the opportunity to develop into a vital asset for the club.

As he takes his first steps in a United shirt, fans will be eager to see what he can bring to the squad. If his confidence and ambition are anything to go by, Dorgu could well become a key figure in United’s future success.
