Rumours have been flying around from different media sources all weekend that an end to the Lucas Moura saga was close, with the young Brazilian putting pen to paper with Manchester United.
The Daily Mail reported that the deal has been done and Lucas Moura was due to have a medical yesterday (Sunday) with Manchester United at Bridgewater Hospital, a statement which it soon become clear was untrue.
Not only untrue but the Brazilian Football Federation issued a statement denying that there was any truth in the story;
The Daily Mail newspaper published an edition this Sunday under the title “United to splash £ 50m on Brazil” – It is not true that the player will perform medical examinations Lucas Sunday in Manchester.
The Board of the Brazilian has not received any request from the English club for this purpose. If we receive a request we will not allow a player to leave the concentration to do it.
The Brazilian team are now in Manchester for the next few days ahead of their semi-final Olympic fixture at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, they will train as a team tomorrow at a secret location in the Trafford area.
Sky Italia this morning are also reporting that a deal has been done between Sao Paolo and PSG for Lucas to move to the french side in December for €45m…
So it seems that the story of Lucas Moura signing for Manchester United or PSG will continue until after the Olympic games.
There was no activity anywhere near Bridgewater Hospital yesterday. In any case, David Gill, who would surely have been central to an agreement being signed, was in London today with his family to watch the London 2012 Olympics.
