Jose Mourinho has been less-than satisfied with Manchester United’s transfer business this summer. At present, with the window due to close this coming week, United have completed deals for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred, FC Porto’s Diogo Dalot and Stoke City’s Lee Grant. Only one of those players is seen as being required for an immediate role in the first team, however, and with the Portuguese also targeting a winger and a centre back, it’s clear as to why the manager has cut a frustrated figure this summer.
One man who was the subject of interest from the club last year, and who likely will have caught Mourinho’s eye again after some excellent performances at this summer’s World Cup, is Ivan Perisic. The Croatian, who currently plies his trade in Italy with Inter Milan, came close to sealing a move to Old Trafford only for the two clubs to fail to agree a price. Now, with the player preparing for the start of the Serie A season, speculation has persisted that the 29-year old could be on the move.
“Honestly, I would like to test myself in all of the biggest leagues but the question is will I have the time, I am 29 and working to extend my career as long as I can,’ Perisic told Sportske Novosti in quotes carried by Metro. “Yes, I’d like to play in England and Spain but I don’t know if there is enough time left.”
Perisic also spoke about Bayern Munich’s new manager and fellow countryman Niko Kovac:
“He had very big influence on me, I played great for Croatia under him and I congratulate him on everything he has done in Germany and signing for Bayern. If they want me, they know where to find me!”
Perisic’s comments aren’t likely to stop rumours from swirling regarding his future, but at this stage, it feels unlikely that a move will materialise for the right winger, given how little time remains in this transfer window.
