Gareth Bale’s future has been an endless source of discussion since last Saturday’s Champions League final. The Real Madrid and Wales forward bagged a memorable brace in the second half of a 3-1 defeat of Liverpool after coming off the bench for Zinedine Zidane’s side, and his comments post-match, lamenting that he didn’t start the game and making his desire to be playing each week seemed to suggest that the former Spurs forward’s time at the Bernabeu was coming to an end.
Manchester United have long been linked with a move for Bale, having tried to sign him three times previously and failed.Bale will not be at the world cup this summer with Wales, but England are currently good odds in the World Cup Betting so who knows what could happen in Russia. There’s a possibility of United making it fourth time bid likely this time, but as a report by Sport Witness via El Confidencial states, the Old Trafford have some competition.
Apparently, Bayern Munich are also keen on Bale’s services, and according to the report, that option is of some interest to the player and his family due to the lack of media interest that they’ve enjoyed whilst living in Madrid. That would be unlikely to change in Munich, but a return to England and move to Manchester would certainly alter that landscape.
Further complicating matters from a United perspective is the fact that Zinedine Zidane has left his position as Real’s manager. Even after sealing a hat-trick of successive Champions League titles, the Frenchman explained that he felt the need to step aside, claiming “What I think is that this team needs to continue winning but I think it needs a change, a different voice, another methodology.” There’s every chance that Zidane’s replacement could have a wildly different opinion on Bale’s future at the club going forward, and that could have a bearing on the Welshman’s desire to leave. Regardless, it’s realistic to suggest that this particular chapter in its transfer saga is still in its infancy.
