Manchester United have received a boost in their bid to sign Arda Turan after Barcelona director Roberto Fernandez confirmed that the Turkish forward would be allowed to leave the Nou Camp before the transfer window shuts on Thursday.
The 30-year-old, who arrived from Atletico Madrid in 2015, has failed to endear himself to Barcelona supporters – known to place emphasis on a fluid, intuitive style – with his uncompromising, almost old-fashioned playing style and ever managed to cement a regular place in the starting XI under Luis Enrique.
And his future is looking even bleaker under Ernesto Valverde. The new boss hasn’t given the forward any minutes whatsoever this season, leaving him out of the squad against Alaves over the weekend and plunging him even further down the pecking order after securing the services of Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele earlier this week. In response, he has asked his agent to secure him a move away before the window shuts and Mourinho, who admires the player, could capitalise with a late bid. Reports claim that the 54-year-old has held meetings with Turan over the summer ahead of a potential move.
And Fernandez, when asked about Turan’s future by Fanatik, confirmed that the forward – along with others – will be allowed to leave the Nou Camp before the window shuts.
“We are expecting several players to complete their moves away from the club by Wednesday,” he said.
