Memphis Depay and Daley Blind were dropped because of international failings

Manchester United’s starting line up, against Everton, brought up a couple of surprises.

Prior to the game at Goodison Park, Memphis Depay and Daley Blind had started every single Premier League game this season. On Saturday both of the Dutchmen were unused substitutes.

Instead of Memphis, Anthony Martial was started on left wing, where he played very well. This moved Wayne Rooney into the striker position and pulled Ander Herrera into attacking midfield.

Both Rooney and Herrera scored in the game with the whole team putting in a solid all-round performance.

Daley Blind was replaced as Chris Smalling’s centre back companion by Phil Jones.

Manager Louis van Gaal has announced that he dropped his countrymen due to issues relating to them dropping out of the European Qualifiers, with their home nation the Netherlands.

Van Gaal reasoned his decision by saying this:

“[My selection] is dependable on the game plan, it is dependable on the qualities of the opponents, which players I want to select for the line up and also dependable on the defeat of the Dutch team.”

Given how well Manchester United played at the weekend it is presumed that Louis van Gaal will not alter his starting eleven too much, the Dutchman concurred:

“Now they have played very well, so I am not stupid, I won’t change too much on Wednesday.”

Both Daley Blind and Memphis Depay have scored 1 Premier League goal this season.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
