Despite not playing a single pre-season game, Manchester United started the season with Sergio Romero in goal. Romero had spent the past couple of seasons as a bench warmer for A.S. Monaco and Sampdoria. The Argentinean keeper started the first 6 games, only failing to keep a shutout in 2 of them.
Once Real Madrid failed to sign David De Gea, Sergio Romero was dropped to the bench and his Spanish team mate started in the derby game against Liverpool.
De Gea put in a great shift against United’s arch nemesis, only being bested by an awe-inspiring overhead kick from Christian Benteke.
The future of Sergio Romero looks bleak following the return of United’s world class keeper. Especially after Louis van Gaal’s comments this week.
When asked whether or not the Dutch coach would rotate his keepers in Europe, he replied:
“I do not support that. I always pick my best team.”
Praying that he doesn’t sustain an injury, it looks as though David De Gea will be manning the net for the rest of the campaign.
One reply on “Sergio Romero May Never Play Again”
ever since de gea got back in goal, we haven’t got a clean sheet. perhaps romero should be reinstated.
