Manchester United’s striker situation gets worse with reports coming in claiming that Javier Hernández has been told that he may leave the club.
This summer, van Gaal has done very well at fixing the midfield problem, by acquiring world class talent. Also, his faith in the young defence, and the addition of Matteo Darmian, has started to pay of this season.
But, van Gaal let Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao go. Leaving United with Wayne Rooney (who performs best when playing off of a striker), Javier Hernández (who was loaned out and barely played last season) and James Wilson (who needs a loan away, to gain experience and work on his physical game).
Hernández has many clubs lining up to gain his signature. Spurs, West Ham, Bayer Leverkusen and old club C. D. Guadalajara have all displayed interest in the Mexican striker.
Despite the rumours hinting at United’s striker situation getting worse, it may actually mean that a bigger and better striker could be on his way to Old Trafford. But van Gaal has been stubborn and declined any and all suggestions that he’s wants a new striker.
To make matters worse, the Dutch manager has played down the clubs need for a striker by saying that Fellaini can play upfront. With just 3 days left of the transfer window, United fans should be scared that there are no solid rumours coming in about a new goal scorer coming in.
Let’s say that between now and the Tuesday deadline, United don’t sign anyone else. There’s still Rooney who is a world class player, and has always provided goals for the Red Devils but, what happens when he gets injured?
Since the 2007/08 season, Rooney has sustained at least one injury every year. Chances are that Old Trafford will have to see the front line headed by Marouane Fellaini at some point this season.
There is the option that Depay could play as a lone striker but, he is far better suited to playing on the wing and being new to the team, and the league, the young Dutchman needs consistency to develop into a superstar.

Mandzukic would be a nice target man.
