Depay Grateful for Rooney

In each of his 4 competitive matches as a Red Devil, Memphis Depay has showed snippets of his huge potential and talent. He displays remarkable confidence and a hunger to score in the league, with little care about who’s trying to stop him.

Being just 21, and having only previously played for PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivise, Depay is quite inexperienced not only to the style of football in England, but also to the lifestyle surrounding it. There is immense pressure on top footballers in the Premier League, from the fans and the media.

Wayne Rooney came to Old Trafford at a young age too – whilst also carrying a big price tag, and a lot of expectations. The Englishman has since lived up the grand expectations, scoring 230 goals, making 483 appearances, winning the Champions League and 5 Premier League trophies.

In an interview following Manchester United’s goalless home draw with Newcastle United, Memphis spoke fondly of his relationship with team captain Wayne Rooney:

“Wayne Rooney helps me a lot… He has a lot of experience. He already knows everything about the football world so if I have any questions I can ask him.”

The Dutch winger went on to describe his transition from Dutch to English football:

“Opponents are more organised here. The Premier League is stronger than in Holland and everybody knows that. I could have finished a couple of chances but I didn’t and I have to work on that.”

United fans can look forward to Memphis improving each game and hopefully becoming one of the best players to put on the red devil crest.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
