This year Manchester United have had their critics. At the beginning of the season their defence was under pressure to perform and whilst Louis van Gaal has made strides to solidify his back four, his side have lacked any real creativity going forwards. Even United’s strikers have been in the spotlight, none more so than Radamel Falcao who has scored just 4 goals since arriving in Manchester in the summer. The deal for the Columbian was designed to bolster United’s attack, but the striker has only shown glimpses of the form that saw him star for Monaco and Athletico Madrid. United are clearly lacking the type of player that scores goals for fun, the type of player they had in Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Meanwhile at Tottenham Hotspur, Harry Kane has scored 23 goals in all competitions, by comparison United’s top scorer Robin Van Persie has scored just 10. Each of Kane’s goals has been a brilliant individual effort and it’s drawn comparisons with the very best.
United legend Paul Scholes has said Kane reminds him of the his former team mate and goal machine, Ruud van Nistelrooy and whilst Gareth Bale had been the supposed transfer target for United in the summer, Kane would be a much better fit, having netted five times, making two assists in his last four Premier League games, taking his tally to 13 goals in the top flight this season.
Former United midfielder Scholes has been impressed with Kane’s temperament, along with a host of goals against the top teams.
“What makes him special? I have said before that he does not have a standout quality but scores highly across a number of categories. The more I watch him, the more I appreciate his temperament. Playing in attack is difficult. You are under scrutiny and you have to be able to deal with that. Kane seems to do it easily.
“You simply cannot argue with goals against teams like Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Especially away at Liverpool,” Scholes wrote in his Independent column.
“I think scoring for the away team at Anfield is still a litmus test for any striker who wants to call himself a goalscorer. Kane is not just picking up goals at home against teams in the bottom half of the table, he is scoring against the best and away from White Hart Lane too.
“Martin Skrtel is good at rattling the opposing centre-forward. He did it to a player as experienced as Diego Costa and got a reaction out of him. Yet Kane never reacted to Skrtel once, and never looked like doing so.
“Then, when the chance presented itself he was ruthless. I have said before his finishing reminds me of Ruud van Nistelrooy. The thing about Ruud was he never wanted to give the goalkeeper a sniff of saving it. Kane is the same.”
Kane was rewarded for his fine form with a new five-and-a-half year Tottenham contract earlier this month and is now on course to overtake the 26 goals scored by Gareth Bale during the 2012/13 season. That haul of goals earned the Welshman an £86million move to Real Madrid. However without a buy out clause Daniel levy would drive a hard bargain should United or any other club potentially come in for Kane. But should United make the top four and the rumoured world record fee for Bale is to be believed, would United’s money be of more use heading to White Hart Lane to pick up the best English talent to come through since Wayne Rooney?

Man U spent £150, mil last year and if you believe the press they are likely to have a similar budget for this year; Since the Beckham, Scholes era Man U have been big spenders, buying their success like Man City and Chelsea. It really is killing the game as all the trophies end up going to the big spending clubs. You are now suggesting they should make Harry Kane their no 1 target, perhaps they should consider developing their own talent rather than luring away the best young talent from other clubs Huge transfer fees and outrageous wages are killing football and most real fans would like to see a fairer playing field.
Hi Dave I think my suggestion is that if the board are planning a 150 million swoop for Bale, then Kane is a better home grown option. As a United fan I know a lot about home grown talent, we have Wilson sitting in reserve who should be playing every week. I don’t think you should be blaming me for the nature of football in this country because that’s fucking ludicrous. What I’m suggesting in spending that sort of money is ludicrous for Gareth Bale. Anyway moving on..
